The Opus Plus team is led by founder, Cynthia Gilmer, an accomplished visionary and results-oriented leader with over 20 years experience in technology, business process improvement and new product development. She founded Opus Plus in 2001 based on her passion for helping companies achieve greater success through the development and application of innovation. Her industry experience includes government, software, telecommunications, and information technology. Ms. Gilmer also serves as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business teaching new product development, and she is Product Development and Management Association Certified New Product Development Professional (NPDP).

Since founding Opus Plus, Ms. Gilmer has provided leadership to her team in support of numerous clients from startups to billion-dollar companies, allowing them to achieve greater success through the application of innovation. Some examples include:

  • Developed and deployed a complete and consistent project management process and online handbook for a $500 million dollar government contractor holding company and all of its subsidiaries. The resulting deliverable was a customized process based on the PMBOK.
  • Developed new products including geospatial software tools, software as a service (SaaS) solutions, and computer security and computer forensics solutions.
  • Helped government contractors develop “productized” service offerings that can be easily sold with repeatable results and increased profit margins.
  • Provided a complete process definition for the launch of a major ERP system
  • Supported a full business process improvement effort across multiple subsidiaries of a large service provider
  • Defined and deployed innovative solutions including robust collaboration and intranet solutions.
Before founding Opus Plus, Ms. Gilmer was Product Management Director for iDirect, a satellite equipment manufacturer. She established and served as the director of the Applications Product Development and Engineering organization for BroadBand Office, a competitive local exchange carrier (CLEC) providing voice, data and applications solutions to small and mid-sized businesses. In 1997, Ms. Gilmer founded Broadband Inc., a consultancy that helped cable companies and wireless providers transition into the Internet service business both in the US and abroad. She also helped lead BTG into new business areas as co-founder of their subsidiary, Community Networks, Incorporated (CNI), a pioneer in the broadband over cable TV service market. Earlier in her career, Ms. Gilmer developed custom software solutions for government and commercial clients.

Ms. Gilmer has experience in business process frameworks and quality standards including the PMBOK, CMMI, ISO and Six-Sigma. She holds BS and MS degrees in Computer Science from the University of Maryland and Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University respectively.
